New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh to anyone who can provide any information leading to the arrest of self-styled godman Virender Dev Dikshit, in connection with multiple cases where he was allegedly holding girls and women as prisoners in his ‘ashrams’ across the country. The Delhi Commission for Women had in co-ordinated raids with Delhi Police rescued over 40 girls from one such ashram in Rohini in December 2017. Also Read – After eight years, businessman arrested for kidnap & murderIn a statement issued by DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal at the time, she said that the ideology of the organisation clearly shows intent to sexually exploit women. In documents accessed by Millennium Post, the ashram in Rohini called itself “Adhyatmik Vishwavidyalya” and described minor girls as “kumaris (maidens)” who are meant to become “servants of the world”. Delhi Police had filed three separate FIRs in the case throughout 2017, and following the raid conducted in the North-West Delhi ashram of Dikshit, the High Court of Delhi had transferred Also Read – Two brothers held for snatchingsthe case to the federal investigative agency, asking it to form a Special Investigating Team to probe the case. No law enforcement agency has been able to locate Dikshit (77) since then. Sources familiar with developments said that CBI had received some inputs about Dikshit’s possible sightings in Nepal. Subsequently, the investigative agency, through Interpol has issued one Blue Corner Notice (BCN) on March 26, 2018, and two Look Out Notices on January 22, 2018, and February 21, 2018, respectively. In addition, the CBI has formed several teams to work on the case. The BCN, which according to Interpol is to help collect additional information about a person’s identity, location or activities in relation to a crime, has been issued against Dikshit in Nepal. Sources here added that CBI has received no indication from Nepalese authorities about the possible location of Dikshit in the country as of yet. Following the High Court directive, CBI had filed three FIRs in the case. In one of the cases, official sources said that CBI has completed the investigation and filed a chargesheet in front of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Rohini on October 3, 2018, naming 59 female inmates of Dikshit’s ashram. Investigations in the other two cases are continuing. The 77-year-old godman has two non-bailable warrants issued against him at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrates’ court in Rohini. Sources here added that CBI has put up notices on the gates of all of Dikshit’s ashrams in Delhi and efforts to apprehend him are in full force. Dikshit has over 25 ashrams in India and numerous ‘Gitashalas’, which according to CBI are where he reads teachings from the Bhagavad Gita to his ‘disciples’. Official sources said that it is not possible to trace the number of ‘Gitashalas’ as they are conducted in informal settings all over the nation. Sources added that Dikshit has one ashram in Nepal as well.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court Monday dismissed a plea seeking a direction to the Election Commission (EC) to advance poll timings to 5:30 am from 7 am for the seventh phase of Lok Sabha polls in view of searing heat and the month of Ramzan.A vacation bench comprising Justices Indira Banerjee and Sanjiv Khanna rejected the plea, saying the notified timing of voting are from 7 am to 6 pm and voters can cast vote in the morning also. “The timings are from 7 am to 6 pm. People can come in the morning to cast their votes. They (EC) will face the logistical problem (if timings are advanced),” the bench told advocate Mohammad Nizamuddin Pasha who had filed the petition. The petitioner had earlier told the top court that during Ramzan, Muslims keep fast. The petitioner had said harsh weather conditions would make it difficult for Muslims to go out and vote.
1 February 2012A United Nations official today urged Asian countries to commit to achieving sustainable energy for all their citizens by 2030 by increasing access to and the efficiency of renewable energy sources. A United Nations official today urged Asian countries to commit to achieving sustainable energy for all their citizens by 2030 by increasing access to and the efficiency of renewable energy sources. “Reaching the goal of sustainable energy for all will require action by all countries and all sectors to shape the policy and investment decisions needed for a brighter energy future,” said Director-General of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Chair of UN-Energy Kandeh K. Yumkella. Globally, one person in five lacks access to modern electricity and twice than number – three billion people – rely on wood, coal, charcoal or animal waste for cooking and heating. In developed countries, the problem comes from a substantial waste of energy. “Industrialized countries must accelerate the transition to low-emission technologies. Developing countries, many of them growing rapidly and at large scale, have the opportunity to leapfrog conventional energy options and move directly to cleaner energy alternatives that will enhance economic and social development,” Mr. Yumkella told the 12th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit, organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). To tackle this issue as well as stimulate economic growth and the preservation of the environment, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon established the Sustainable Energy for All initiative, which seeks to ensure universal access to modern energy services, double the rate of improvement in energy efficiency and double the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix within the next 20 years. To guide this initiative, Mr. Ban appointed a high-level group of global leaders from business, finance, government and civil society to mobilize and facilitate commitments to action which will help drive change. Mr. Yumkella, a co-chair of this group, told participants at the conference that new commitments and investments in sustainable energy were critical for Asia’s development. “I strongly believe that now more than ever, the world needs to ensure that the benefits of modern energy are available to all and that energy is provided as cleanly and efficiently as possible. This is a matter of equity, first and foremost, but it is also an issue of urgent practical importance,” he said.

China produced 2,525 vehicles every hour in 2013, equating to 22 million for the full year. This has nearly quadrupled since 2005, when 5.8 million vehicles were built. Of the 1,201,395 UK-built cars that were exported in 2013, 10% found a home in China. Jaguar Land Rover sold almost 100,000 cars in China last year, while BMW sold almost 18,000. Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Aston Martin all have strong exports to the country. So far, four of China’s major vehicle manufacturers have a manufacturing or R&D base in the UK. SAIC, Chang’an and Lifan all own or partner with UK technical centres, while the iconic London Taxi Company was acquired by Hangzhou-based Geely in 2013. With a highly skilled and flexible workforce, as well as a favourable business environment, the UK has a lot to offer global manufacturers, but why the focus on China?Put simply, China is a manufacturing superpower – something of which most international businesses are aware. To put its scope and scale into perspective, we’ve picked out four statistics about Chinese automotive manufacturing and how the UK is benefiting. In 2013, there were 22 million new vehicles registered in China, as a growing proportion of its 1.3 billion population entered the market for a new vehicle. To put this into perspective, the second-largest vehicle market, the US, saw 16 million registrations, while Japan, the third-largest, registered 5.3 million.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — While the other Power Five conferences will hold championship games that will help determine the field for the College Football Playoff, the prize in the Pac-12 title game will be a more traditional one. When No. 17 Utah takes on No. 10 Washington on Friday night, the teams will be battling for a spot in the Rose Bowl — the reward that has been given almost annually to the top Pac-12 team for about a century.“The Pac-12 Championship Game is always what we’ve been working for,” Utes linebacker Chase Hansen said. “That’s kind of been the prize for us. Now that we’re here, it’s about as big as it can get for us.”Getting to this game is quite an accomplishment for the Utes (9-3, 6-3, No. 17 CFP), who made the move from the Mountain West conference to the more prestigious Pac-12 in 2011.Utah has made a bowl game the past four years but is making its first appearance in the Pac-12 title game and is seeking its first trip ever to the Rose Bowl.“It has been an exciting journey,” coach Kyle Whittingham said. “As I’ve said many times in the past, when we joined the Pac-12, it was like I got a new job. Everything was different. The bar was raised in virtually every area and it was a big challenge.”The Huskies (9-3, 7-2, No. 11 CFP) are playing in the conference title game for the second time ever, having beaten Colorado two years ago to earn a spot in the four-team playoff.Washington hasn’t been to the Rose Bowl since the end of the 2000 season.“I think everybody wants to do that, for sure,” coach Chris Petersen said. “If you’re not going to the playoffs, everybody is very much dialed into the Rose Bowl. Especially with the history of this conference and the Rose Bowl, it would be an awesome, awesome game to go to.”Here are some other things to watch:RARE REMATCH: These teams met previously on Sept. 15, with the Huskies winning 21-7 at Utah behind 143 yards rushing and a touchdown from Myles Gaskin. This marks the first time since 2010 that Washington played the same team twice in a year, having beaten Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl that year after losing in the regular season. Utah last had a rematch during the season in 1945 against Denver.“It’s unique in itself but, at the same time, you prepare for them like they’re a completely new team because they’re always going to have something different,” Hansen said. “They’ve progressed. The season’s long. They’re doing different things.”UNDER PRESSURE: Utah’s defence is built on getting negative plays that force the opponent into difficult third-and-long situations. Utah leads the Pac-12 with 8.2 tackles for loss per game, which plays a big role in holding opposing offences to a league-best 33.2 per cent conversion rate on third down, when they are able to bring even more pressure on the quarterback.“They’re dedicated to it, they’re exotic about it and it’s kind of their game-plan thing,” Huskies quarterback Jake Browning said. “They do what they do other than third-down pressures. That’s where they change it up week to week. “FANTASTIC FILL-INS: The Utes were dealt a big blow during a four-day span in early November when quarterback Tyler Huntley and running back Zack Moss went down with injuries. That duo accounted for 84 per cent of Utah’s offence through nine games, but backups Jason Shelley and Armand Shyne have proved to be more than capable fill-ins. Shelley has committed no turnovers in three starts at quarterback, winning all three games. Shyne has averaged 92 yards rushing per game as the featured back with three TDs in that span.SPECIAL SPECIALISTS: The Utes have perhaps the nation’s top kicking duo in 2016 Ray Guy Award winner as top punter Mitch Wishnowsky and 2017 Lou Groza winner as top kicker Matt Gay. Wishnowsky ranks ninth in the nation this season, averaging 45.4 yards per punt, with 21 inside the 20-yard line and nine at or inside the 10. Wishnowsky has just nine touchbacks on 166 career punts. Gay leads the nation with 21 straight made field goals and is tied for best in the country with nine made kicks from at least 40 yards.___AP Sports Writer Tim Booth in Seattle and freelancer John Coon in Salt Lake City contributed to this report___More AP college football: https://apnews.com/Collegefootball and https://twitter.com/AP_Top25Josh Dubow, The Associated Press
Newmont Mining has agreed to acquire Goldcorp in a friendly all-stock deal valuing the Canada-headquartered company at $10 billion.Under the terms of the agreement, Newmont will acquire each Goldcorp share for 0.3280 of a Newmont share, which represents a 17% premium based on the companies’ 20-day volume weighted average share prices. The deal comes just weeks after Barrick Gold merged with Randgold Resources to create a new industry giant.“The agreement will combine two gold industry leaders into Newmont Goldcorp, to create an unmatched portfolio of operations, projects, exploration opportunities, reserves and people in the gold mining sector,” Newmont said.“Newmont Goldcorp’s world-class portfolio will feature operating assets in favourable jurisdictions, an unparalleled project pipeline, and exploration potential in the most prospective gold districts around the globe. In addition to providing shareholders the largest gold Reserves per share, Newmont Goldcorp will offer the highest annual dividend among senior gold producers.”Gary Goldberg, Newmont’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We have a proven strategy and disciplined implementation plan to realise the full value of the combination, including an exceptional pool of talented mining professionals, stable and profitable gold production of 6-7 Moz over a decades-long time horizon, the sector’s largest gold reserve and resource base, and a leading project and exploration pipeline.“Our cultures are well aligned, with strong commitments to zero harm, inclusion and diversity, and industry-leading environmental, social and governance performance. We expect to generate up to $100 million in annual pre-tax synergies, with additional cost and efficiency opportunities that will be pursued through our proven full potential continuous improvement programme.”Newmont Goldcorp’s reserves and resources will represent the largest in the gold sector, located in favourable mining jurisdictions in the Americas, Australia and Ghana, representing approximately 75%, 15% and 10%, respectively.Newmont Goldcorp will also prioritise project development by returns and risk, while targeting $1.0 to 1.5 billion in divestitures over the next two years to optimise gold production at a sustainable, steady-state level of 6-7 Moz annually.Goldcorp’s President and Chief Executive Officer, David Garofalo, said: “Newmont Goldcorp will be one of Canada’s largest gold producers and will have its North America regional office in Vancouver, and expects to oversee more than three million ounces of the combined company’s total annual gold production.”Following the merger, Newmont Goldcorp’s management team will be appointed on a “best talent” basis, Newmont said, with Gary Goldberg as Chief Executive Officer and Tom Palmer as President and Chief Operating Officer. As part of a planned and orderly leadership succession process, Goldberg and Newmont’s board have been engaged in discussions anticipating a CEO succession in early 2019. In October 2018, the company also announced Palmer’s promotion to President and Chief Operating Officer. To ensure a smooth and successful combination, Goldberg has agreed to lead Newmont Goldcorp through closure of the transaction and integration of the two companies. The company expects this process to be substantially completed in the December quarter of 2019, when Goldberg plans to retire and Palmer will become President and Chief Executive Officer. The Board of Directors will be proportionally comprised of Newmont and Goldcorp Directors, with Noreen Doyle as Chair and Ian Telfer as Deputy Chair.Goldcorp’s Vancouver, Canada, office will become Newmont Goldcorp’s North America regional office, while Newmont Goldcorp’s South America regional office will be in Miami, US, the Australia regional office will be in Perth, and the Africa regional office will be in Accra, Ghana. Newmont Goldcorp will be a Delaware corporation with its corporate headquarters in Colorado, US.The Boards of Directors of both companies have unanimously approved the transaction, including in the case of Goldcorp, on the unanimous recommendation of a special committee of independent directors of Goldcorp. The transaction is expected to close in the June quarter, but closing is subject to approval by the shareholders of both companies; regulatory approvals in a number of jurisdictions including the European Union, Canada, South Korea and Mexico; and other customary closing conditions.
An underground stash of World War II Kaiser shipyard debris has been discovered near the Marine Park boat landing, and after a bit of study, city of Vancouver officials and the state Department of Ecology have decided the best thing to do is to just leave it there. The debris — made up of old timbers, buckets and steel — includes materials that are contaminated at levels that are required to be cleaned up under the state Model Toxics Control Act, investigation by city staff and an environmental geochemist consultant found. But the trash has spent the past 60 years without contaminating the groundwater. So the city and the Department of Ecology decided that it could remain, and groundwater would be monitored.“Sometimes you can potentially do more environmental damage to the site by taking it out than leaving it in place,” Vancouver General Services Manager Tim Haldeman said Friday. “We’ll monitor wells around the property, and if for some reason it does decide to move (into the groundwater,) we’ll know that.”The city council on Monday will vote on whether to accept a restrictive covenant on the property, meaning that the area will not be disturbed in the future.
EUGENE, Ore. — Authorities in Eugene are encrypting their radio channel to prevent the public from listening to police activity.Police Lt. Nathan Reynolds told the Eugene Register-Guard that there are times when an officer responds to a crime and finds the suspect listening to the local police scanner. Such chatter could allow criminals to keep tabs on police locations or activities.“What we’re reaching for is an increase in the safety of our officers, especially in tactical situations,” Reynolds said. While the move might limit access for criminals, it also will block public access for law-abiding hobbyists and others who want to keep tabs on police activity.Eugene police began making the shift in 2008, when it moved from analog to digital radio equipment. At the time, it scrambled all the frequencies except for the main channel that broadcasts basic dispatch and call details. More sensitive information, including talk about Social Security numbers, already has been moved to encrypted channels. All police chatter will be fully encrypted started next weekend, when the main channel is transitioned.A number of police agencies around the United States have moved to limit access to their radio traffic. Springfield police began its encryption in 2008. Rick Lewis, the interim chief in Springfield, told The Register-Guard that police received a number of complaints from members of the public initially, but he said the complaints have since diminished.Matt Dillon, an amateur radio operator, said the digital transition in Eugene and Springfield “was a hindrance to a lot of folks” who enjoyed listening to police activity. He said enthusiasts can still listen to some area law enforcement agencies, such as the Lane County sheriff’s office, with analog radios.
