DARTMOUTH, N.S. — The future of lithium-ion battery longevity — a key component in a world without fossil fuels — may lie in an unassuming, bunker-style building in a Halifax-area industrial park.Down a concrete hall, past a ping pong table, is an airplane hangar-like room with soaring ceilings, whirring electronic equipment and a massive loading door flung open to the harbour air. This is the office of Novonix Battery Testing Services, a Dartmouth company honing high-precision battery testing systems for tech firms like Apple and Tesla Motors. The start-up was spun off from Herzberg Medal-winner Jeff Dahn’s ground-breaking battery lab at Dalhousie University. Australia’s publicly traded Novonix Group bought a majority stake in June, and the company is now ramping up efforts to grow its customer base. With the help of a $500,000 loan from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency announced Tuesday, Novonix plans to move to a larger facility, add to its eight-person team and expand equipment sales and testing services.Demand for high-powered, long-lasting lithium-ion batteries is expected to soar as restrictions on gasoline- and diesel-fuelled cars mount and renewable energy-storage needs increase. Testing and lengthening the life expectancy of the rechargeable batteries will become an increasingly critical component to research and development. In what could be a giant step for the firm’s lithium-ion battery testing capabilities, Dahn — who has teamed up with Tesla, the California electric car and solar panel company headed by CEO Elon Musk — has also assigned a new patent to Novonix.“It’s very hard to make a lithium-ion cell that lasts a long time,” says Dr. Chris Burns, Novonix president and CEO. “It’s even harder to prove it.”The powerful rechargeable batteries fuel everything from cell phones and laptops to vacuums and electric vehicles. They’re even being used in grid-energy storage projects.Traditional methods of testing the lifetime of a lithium-ion battery can take months or even years. But Novonix has narrowed down the testing period to weeks.“We developed and commercialized a system that is more accurate than what anyone else is building in the market and that allowed researchers to gain insight into the performance of their batteries in only a few weeks what through traditional methods might take months or years,” Burns says. The 30-year-old, originally from outside Boston, came to Halifax in 2009 to attend Dalhousie University.Largely through word-of-mouth, Novonix now has amassed an impressive roster of marquee clients including Panasonic, Dyson, Bosch and 3M.“We go to conferences and trade shows and Jeff Dahn mentions us,” Burns says. “It’s a small industry and people hear about us and that has kept us very busy.”Using high-tech electronics, Novonix measures coulombic efficiency to determine how small changes in rechargeable lithium-ion battery chemistry will impact long-term battery performance. The company uses local suppliers to build its equipment. The metal work comes from Protocase in Cape Breton while the board assembly is done by Sunsel Systems in Dartmouth.Novonix plans to expand its equipment offering soon to include the latest intellectual property to come out of Dahn’s lab.Although estimating the remaining life in a lithium-ion battery is difficult, Dahn says he noticed that as lithium-ion batteries age, the liquid electrolyte in the cells slowly turns into a solid form.“When the liquid is gone, the batteries are dead,” he says. “So if you can determine the fraction of liquid that remains in the battery, you can estimate the state of health of the battery and how much longer it might last.”With the help of a student researcher, Dahn developed a so-called “lithium-ion battery differential thermal analyzer.”“It’s a huge mouthful,” he said. “But it’s actually a very simple method. Batteries are frozen and slowly heated to detect when the liquid electrolyte melts. The strength of the signal is related to how much liquid is remaining and to its composition.”

The Trump Organization said it was lending its brand power and operating the tower, but that the family would not be investing in the development. When it is completed, the building will become the second Trump International Hotel and Tower in Canada after the one in Toronto. A postman who was caught delivering cannabis in parcels on his delivery route in £1.2m drugs operation has today been jailed.Parcelforce Worldwide driver Adewale Aderounmu would intercept the bogus parcels and hand them to accomplices in a drug ring, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.Border Force officers stopped the activity after noticing a suspicious number of the cannabis parcels it had seized were bound for NW1 0 or NW1 1 in north-west London – which was Aderounmu’s route. The 55-year-old, of south London, was sentenced at the Old Bailey to seven-and-a-half years in prison after admitting one charge of conspiracy to supply Class B drugs in August last year.He had worked for Parcelforce Worldwide for more than a decade when he was arrested.Prosecutors said bundles of cannabis were often posted to his beat in the capital from Nigeria and South Africa. In October 2016, the Border Force stopped one package with almost 6kg of cannabis that was destined for a non-existent address in NW1. Investigators swapped it for a dummy and put it into Aderounmu’s delivery load – then watched as he handed it to another man on the street. He was arrested by the National Crime Agency.Officers combing back through previously seized drug parcels found around 100 had been sent to the postcode between 2010 and 2016, with a street value of £1.2 million. Still feeling the effects of last week’s crossover, The Flash takes a page out of Arrow‘s book by starting us off with a crossover. Four years ago, Julian was on an archaeological expedition in India. He writes in his journal about hearing a strange voice before someone comes to his tent saying they’ve found something. They lead Julian to a stone box. When he opens it, a blue light comes out, and we cut to the present. The team at S.T.A.R. Labs is preparing for Christmas while they research Savitar. Cisco briefly sees Dante, his dead brother walking around, but shakes it off to pursue a hunch. Cisco finds an old paper written by Julian regarding an ancient Hindu weapon that looks a lot like Alchemy’s jewel. Barry heads to his old office at the police department to ask Julian about the stone. Julian says he was researching something known as the Philosopher’s Stone. His research took him to India, but he never found it. Julian begins acting strange when Barry asks if he’s come across the name Savitar. All he says, though, is that Savitar was the first speedster. He shoves Barry away before Savitar calls him to take out his Alchemy suit.Deciding he needs more information, he universe-hops over to Earth-3. After helping Jay Garrick take care of his version of The Trickster, he asks about Savitar. He learns that Savitar was not only the first speedster but also the fastest and most powerful. Jay tells Barry that all this information comes from speed-force myths and legends. Barry is the first to have actually seen Savitar, which means he’s grown powerful enough to become a threat. Jay says Savitar sent alchemy to begin everyone powers to prepare for a battle with Barry. Garrick stays in Earth-1 to help.Mark Hamill returns as The Trickster in Jay Garrick’s (John Wesley Shipp) universe. (Photo: Screenshot via CW)H.R. is helping Wally train in secret, and Wally is getting good. He’s progressing faster than Barry did. Wally wants to tell everyone he’s ready to become a superhero, but H.R. asks him to keep it a secret. Back at the lab, Barry isn’t having any luck finding information about Savitar and Jay convinces him to pay more attention to the present, particularly his girlfriend. Barry takes the advice, and Iris mentions that she looked into Julian’s archaeological dig and found that he may have been covering something up. When Barry tells the team that Julian may be connected to Alchemy, Cisco narrows down a possible location. Wally immediately tells everyone about his training and asks to go along.Jay and Barry interrupt Alchemy’s plan to amplify the Philosopher’s Stone’s power. Savitar appears, and Jay fights him while Barry grabs the stone. Jay gets the absolute crap kicked out of him in a fight scene featuring some cheap-looking CGI. Barry beats up Alchemy fairly easily and takes the stone. With Alchemy unconscious, he removes the mask and sees Julian’s face underneath. He takes Julian to S.T.A.R. Lab, locks him up in a cell and asks him about Alchemy. Julian insists he isn’t Alchemy, that he’s never seen the mask before. When he accuses The Flash of trying to frame him, Barry leaves him in the cell to check on Jay’s recovery.Cisco and Caitlin are checking out the box that holds the Philosopher’s Stone and has found out the box gives off no readings. By all their measurements, it doesn’t exist. Meanwhile, after an argument with Wally and H.R., Joe says something that gives Barry an idea. He returns to Julian and asks if he’s been blacking out and losing time. Julian initially doesn’t want to tell him anything, so The Flash takes off his mask, revealing his identity. He asks Julian to trust him and Julian tells him all about his blackouts. He tells Barry his sister died years ago. One night, after she died, he saw her. She told him about the Philosopher’s Stone and where to find it. He funded the expedition to India and found the stone. He reveals that when he found it, he blacked out for the first time. When he woke up back in his hotel room, everyone else on his expedition was dead.Cisco (Carlos Valdes) lets Savitar into the lab. (Photo: Screenshot via CW)Cisco has a similar experience. Dante comes to him and tells him to open the box and take out the stone. Dante promises that the stone can bring him back to life. Cisco does, Dante disappears, and Savitar appears behind him. Barry runs to save him, and Savitar starts throwing him around the labs. Wally runs to help, distracting Savitar long enough to save Barry’s life. Savitar is about to kill both of them, but Caitlin convinces Cisco to close the box. Once he does, Savitar disappears. The experience gives Cisco an idea. He figures out that Alchemy doesn’t exist. It’s really Savitar possessing Julian so that he can recruit an army of followers. The team hooks Julian’s brain up to the box, allowing them to speak directly with Savitar. Savitar seems to know all of them and their futures. He says one will betray the group; one will die and one will suffer something worse. He says the future-Barry trapped Savitar in eternity, and now he’s out for revenge. After bringing Julian out of his trance, Jay comes up with a plan to get rid of Savitar forever. He and Barry run as fast as they can, opening a portal to the speed-force and chucking the box in.Barry succeeds, but he’s transported five months into the future. He hears his own voice scream and runs to see what’s going on. He finds Savitar holding Iris in front of his future-self. Savitar says “you lose” and stabs Iris through the chest. Jay grabs our Barry and brings him back to the present. Barry asks Jay if all that was actually going to happen. Jay says he doesn’t know, but the future isn’t written yet. Jay tells Barry to focus on what’s going on right now, rather than desperately try to prevent the future he saw. Jay returns to Earth-3, and everyone decides to celebrate Christmas together. They invite Julian along, but he says he’d rather be alone. The future doesn’t look good for Iris (Candice Patton). (Photo: Screenshot via CW)At the West house, Cisco laments that it’s raining on Christmas and thanks to Caitlin for talking him into closing the box. H.R., Barry, and Joe give Wally a present: a superhero uniform. Wally West is now kid flash. Julian shows up, not wanting to be alone on Christmas anymore. He says he’s convinced the captain not to put Barry’s resignation through and offers to share the crime lab again. When some carolers show up in the rain, Caitlin uses her ice powers to make it snow. Barry shows Iris his present to her: an apartment. He signed a lease on a new place and gave her a key, telling her he wants to spend every moment he can with her. It’s cheesy, but what else do you want from a Christmas special? This episode was not the most exciting of the season, but it succeeded in being a fun, sweet holiday send-off. The Barry-Iris relationship moved forward, Wally is finally a superhero, and we learned more about Savitar. It moved the story along and ended in a good place for a holiday break. That said, Wally’s story wrapped up a little too easily, and after last week’s giant crossover, the slower pace was a bit of a letdown. But hey, at least one show this season ends its first half on a positive note. At least it’s not another cliffhanger. DC NEWS NUGGET: Frances McDormand passed on playing Joaquin Phoenix’s mom in Todd Phillip’s UNTITLED JOKER ORIGIN movie. They want a name for the mom.— Umberto Gonzalez @ SDCC (@elmayimbe) July 14, 2018That means the Joker’s mother will figure heavily into the plot. I’m still not sure we really need to know the Joker’s origin story. Part of what makes the character so intriguing and scary is how little we know about him. But hey, in the comics, there are three Jokers now, so there’s no reason the DCEU can’t be the same. Most importantly though, we have a title and a release date for the upcoming film, per The Hollywood Reporter. The film will be titled, simply enough, Joker, and we won’t be waiting too long to see it. Joker is set to release on October 4, 2019. Interestingly, the show will also have a much smaller budget than we’re used to seeing from the DCEU, at only $55 million. It’s a sign that it will be less special effects-focused, and probably be more atmospheric and character-driven. It might even make for a better movie than a higher budget would allow. We’ll know for sure in a little more than a year. Maybe we’ll find out which of those scar stories from The Dark Knight was true. That’s probably all we’re going to get from Joker this season, but there’s definitely going to be a ton of new information about Aquaman and Shazam!. The big Warner Bros. Hall H panel isn’t until Saturday, but attendees can get an up-close look at the costumes from both movies on the show floor. IGN reports that Aquaman’s, Mera’s, Shazam’s, and Billy Batson’s costumes are all on display.via IGNFirst, there’s Aquaman’s costume. We already knew basically what he’d look like, but it’s cool to see an up-close photo of the whole outfit. We haven’t seen the helmet yet, either. I like the Roman-inspired look to it.via IGNNext, there’s Mera’s costume, worn by Amber Herd in the film. On its own, it looks like a fairly standard superheroine costume, but you can’t deny they colors are beautiful. It probably looks amazing during the underwater scenes. Hopefully, she gets to join the fight at some point during this movie.via IGNAnd finally, here’s Shazam! and Billy’s costumes. I continue to love the look of this movie. It’s bright and colorful and just the right amount of campy. And yes, it looks like the lightning bolt actually lights up. Perfect. I can’t wait to see how it looks in action (hopefully) later this weekend. DC Universe, the DC standalone streaming and comics service is coming. Most of us aren’t super psyched about the prospect of yet another monthly subscription. DC knows it’s going to have to have something special to get our credit card numbers out of us. Access to back issues of comics was a good start, and now we have our first look at the service’s original programming. DC kicked off San Diego Comic Con this morning with the first trailer for the Greg Berlanti-produced Titans. You can definitely tell it shares a producer with the Arrowverse shows, but even in the trailer, this series goes to some very non-CW places.Yeah, this isn’t airing on network TV at 8 pm. Online streaming services let TV shows do pretty much whatever they want, and Titans is clearly taking advantage. Even when it gets really silly, like how the trailer goes out of its way for the F-bomb. It lets you know this show isn’t the kid-friendly fare we’re used to from DC television, but it’s trying so hard to be edgy. I was on board with the tone and look of this show from the moment the trailer started. The otherworldly nightmare scene, Raven’s costume and powers, the noir-ish lighting of Gotham city… all great. Then Robin says “Fuck Batman!” the way a surly teen might say “you’re not my real dad!” before slamming his door and blasting My Chemical Romance. And to be fair, Robin is an angry teen. Despite the name just being Titans, this show is still very much about the Teen Titans. It’s just that the rest of the trailer does such a good job of communicating the tone. It’s a darker, spookier superhero show, and that well-crafted mood is ever so slightly undercut by the moment of performative teen angst. Overall though, I’m really into the way this show looks. That first image of Starfire in costume may have worried some fans, but she looks fine with all the lighting and special effects in place. All the Titans look great. We also get a look at some action that’s a lot bloodier and more brutal than the Arrowverse fare.Basically all you need to know about DC Universe’s #Titans pic.twitter.com/Mdg5xiprW2— Alex Zalben (@azalben) July 19, 2018As a first trailer, it did its job. I want to see more, and I hope there’s more footage coming from Comic Con this weekend. Either way, it looks like my bank account will be taking yet another monthly hit once Titans premieres on DC Universe this fall.Over on the CW, we already knew a Batwoman TV series was in the works. If it’s picked up, it’ll be the first live-action superhero series to have a gay character in the title role. Since Batwoman will make her debut in the annual Arrowverse crossover this fall though, casting is already getting started. TV Line reports that the producers are looking to cast a lesbian actor in the role. That’s a very good sign as it shows that the people behind this series, especially showrunner Caroline Dries of Vampire Diaries fame, really care about representation. At this early stage, they making sure the portrayal rings true. Also interesting is that they specify an open ethnicity for the role. It’s cool that they’re not overly concerned with matching the race of the character in the comics. Because that’s the beauty of superheroes. Anyone can be under the mask. As long as whoever they cast can give a truthful performance as the DC superhero, it doesn’t matter what they look like. Plus, outside Black Lightning, the Arrowverse is still a pretty white place. It could probably stand to have more heroes of color around.Over on the movie side of the DC universe, we’re unlikely to hear much about the upcoming Joker origin movie this weekend. As it hasn’t started filming, there’s not much Warner Bros. can show that wouldn’t get drowned out in all the other announcements. We know Joaquin Phoenix will play The Joker, which… yes. Good. He’s a talented actor, and I’ll take just about anyone over Jared Leto. We also know, thanks to The Wrap‘s Umberto Gonzalez, that they are looking to cast a big name to play The Joker’s mother, and that Frances McDormand turned the role down. Tags Organizers also said that during the sit-in they’ll share stories of retaliation and their demands will be read.In Silicon Valley, Google workers have led the way for organized protest in the tech industry. In the past, they’ve rebelled against the company’s work in China, military contracts and treatment of contract workers. The problems at Google have also attracted the attention of consumer advocates, some of whom say Google parent Alphabet has become too big to manage. On the same day as the sit-in, SumOfUs, an International consumer group, submitted a shareholder resolution asking Alphabet’s board to consider selling off parts of the company. Alphabet has recommended shareholders vote against the proposal. The proposal is set for a vote at Alphabet’s annual shareholders meeting June 19.The employee sit-in follows a town hall meeting that was convened last week to discuss responses to the alleged retaliation by managers at the search giant. Many workers are calling out sick (of retaliation), a reference to being told to take medical leave when not sick. Some set their out of office email reply to speak to what’s happening. Others will change their profile photos. All of these actions say retaliation is #NotOkGoogle— Google Walkout For Real Change (@GoogleWalkout) May 1, 2019 Tech Industry Google headquarters in Mountain View, California. Stephen Shankland/CNET Last November, Google workers staged a massive walkout. Now, six months later, their protest is taking a different form: a sit-in.On Wednesday, employees at the search giant will hold a demonstration to fight against what they say is systemic retaliation at the company. In particular, two longtime Google employees say they’ve been unfairly targeted by the company because of their roles in organizing the Google walkout. That protest saw 20,000 Google workers march out of their offices in response to the company’s handling of sexual harassment allegations directed at high-level executives. The worldwide event drew international media coverage. One organizer, Meredith Whittaker, said she was asked to give up her work at the AI Now Institute, a research center she co-founded at New York University that examines the societal effects of artificial intelligence. Another organizer, Claire Stapleton, said she was told after the walkout that she’d be demoted and lose half her reports. She said she was also told to go on medical leave even though she wasn’t sick.Google says retaliation is prohibited and that it investigates all allegations.”We prohibit retaliation in the workplace and publicly share our very clear policy,” a Google spokesperson said in an emailed statement Wednesday. “To make sure that no complaint raised goes unheard at Google, we give employees multiple channels to report concerns, including anonymously, and investigate all allegations of retaliation.”Wednesday’s event is being held across the country on May Day, which celebrates the rights of workers and laborers. It starts at 11 a.m. local time.At Google’s corporate headquarters in Mountain View, California, the scene was calm. The company had amped up security and the media was asked to stay in a park on the outskirts of the main campus. Earlier in the day in New York, hundreds of workers participated in the sit-in, according to Whittaker. “Hundreds of people showed up to the @google NYC anti-retaliation sit-in, planned in under 24hrs,” she tweeted on Wednesday. “So many brave people shared their stories. There were tears and talk of unions. #NotOkGoogle”

Retailing giant Walmart is mulling a move into the subscription VOD business — to take on the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, according to a published report.According to a report by The Information, citing anonymous sources, Walmart is contemplating introducing a streaming-video product with price point of $8 per month as well as launching a free, ad-supported video service.Walmart reps didn’t respond to a request for comment.Execs for Walmart see an opportunity to undercut Netflix and Amazon Prime Video with the $8 price point, according to The Information. (Netflix’s standard HD plan is currently $10.99 monthly.) But the report had no details on what kind of TV shows, movies or other programming might be available in a Walmart SVOD service.Netflix and Amazon “are seen as more popular with people on the East and West Coasts of the U.S.,” according to a source cited by The Information. Walmart believes there’s an opportunity to roll out a cheaper service for consumers “in the middle of America,” per the report. Walmart already has its foot in the digital-entertainment door. In 2010, it acquired movie-streaming service Vudu, which offers a collection of 150,00 titles to buy or rent, including in Ultra HD and Vudu’s proprietary HDX format. Two years ago, Vudu launched a free, ad-supported streaming service, “Movies On Us,” which currently offers 5,000 movies and TV shows.Walmart may decide to not go forward with the launch of a streaming service, The Information report added.Separately Tuesday, Walmart announced a five-year pact with Microsoft under which the retailer will standardize on Microsoft’s cloud solutions. That will include Walmart migrating a “significant portion” of its walmart.com and samsclub.com websites to the Microsoft Azure cloud-computing platform. ×Actors Reveal Their Favorite Disney PrincessesSeveral actors, like Daisy Ridley, Awkwafina, Jeff Goldblum and Gina Rodriguez, reveal their favorite Disney princesses. His proposal is simple:Move kickoffs to the 50.Move touchbacks to the 40.Kickoffs can be downed like punts. Colin says that even though it sounds absurd, there are three simple ways that moving the kicking off to mid-field would improve the game.Increases onside kicks – Onside kicks will go up significantly because teams won’t be severely punished with bad field position if they’re unsuccessful. In Colin’s world, touchbacks already come out to the 40. An unsuccessful onside kick would likely end up at the 40 or the 35. Onside kicks are exciting for fans and good for the game. When is the last time you left the room for an onside kick?2. Fair catches will increase – Fair catches are good for player safety. If teams want to get cute and pooch kick it from the 50, the opposing team can fair catch or let it roll and it can be downed like a punt. Fewer car crash collisions. Better field position. More offense.3. Injuries will decrease – It’s called science. If you give 11 18-wheelers in shoulder pads less field to reach kick returner murdering speed, it will cause fewer injuries. Pretty simple.Colin realizes his plan sounds like a half baked idea on the surface, but in reality it’s a simple change that could make the game more exciting for fans.“You don’t want drives starting from the 7. That’s bad offense. That’s more punting. You want to instill more drama, onside kicks, and more offense. Drives start at the 40. What you want in this league is quarterbacks, drama, points.”Vote Cowherd. It’s the height of the Presidential campaign season, and Colin has resumed his personal campaign to move the kickoff to the 50-yard line. He didn’t want to get political, but somebody has to stand up.Yesterday, Commissioner Putin, err Goodell, made another statement hinting that he wants to eventually eliminate kickoffs from the NFL. Sad.Colin is a lover of the NFL and freedom, and wants to make the kickoff great again. The NFL tweaked the kickoff again this year by moving touchbacks up to the 25-yard line. That’s OK, but it’s not good enough. We can do better.Colin’s campaign to move the kickoff to the 50-yard line is gaining steam and has secured a HUUUUGE endorsement from former Vice President of Officiating for the NFL, Mike Pereira. It’s a movement people. Advertisement

is still in its nascent stage Denver residents are gearing up for another battle in the marijuana wars While activists in states like Nevada and Massachusetts are working on ballot measures to legalize recreational weed a coalition in Colorado is collecting signatures to allow “limited social marijuana use” As it stands people in the state capital can consume marijuana only inside places like private homes or a rare “vape-friendly” hotel room That reformers say can leave locals isolated and visitors not knowing where to turn “I enjoy drinking a beer but I dont feel like I should always have to do it sitting in my home” said Mason Tvert communications director for the Marijuana Policy Project which spearheaded the effort to legalize pot in 2012 “And people who are visiting from out of town are able to purchase marijuana but are not able to consume it legally” Tvert along with attorney Brian Vicente are leading the initiative to get the issue on the ballot in November calling their effort the Campaign for Limited Social Use In order to qualify they’ll need to collect the signatures of 4726 registered Denver voters by early August But some local leaders feel that advocates are pushing their luck this time Visitor guides for marijuana tourists explain that in the eyes of the Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act smoke is smoke whether from a cigarette or a joint That means blazing is not allowed in restaurants or most hotel rooms; a maximum of 25% of rooms may allow smoking at any one property and many inns don’t allow smoking at all People caninconspicuously but often illegallyconsume edibles or use vaporize pens or “resort to a wet towel by the door” Tvert says that when he and other reform leaders like Vicente worked on the language for Amendment 64 they had intended for people to be able to consume marijuana more like people consume alcohol: While lighting up in the middle of the street was never something they fought for they did want people to be able to consume it together in spaces reserved for adults In cities such as Pueblo local officials have interpreted the law to allow for “marijuana clubs” while Denver officials more narrowly say consumption is not allowed in places “open or accessible to the public” Under the proposed ballot initiative commercial establishments that sell alcohol on site would be able to allow marijuana consumption on their premiseswhich might mean someone vaping at the cocktail bar or smoking a joint in a fenced-in outdoor area It would also allow for cannabis-only businessesmeaning they do not serve alcohol but do serve as a place to vapeand would give Denver the power to regulate them setting restrictions on hours and locations Pushing for cannabis-only clubs would likely have been an easier fight “Marijuana advocates in Denver have enjoyed a tremendous amount of public support over the past decade” the Denver Post editorial board wrote in June in a piece titled “Vaping in bars smoking on rooftops Public pot plan goes too far” “We bet” they wrote “Denver residents will see this measure as going too far” Go Inside the Harvest of Colorado’s Most Controversial Marijuana Strain insofar as salary assessment is concerned Then there is the possibility of employers being arrested for any laxity in this regard including failing to fully deduct tax at source and depositing the same with the treasury So much so employers’ behaviour has been exemplary on this score though some of them especially those employing lakhs of employees do so grudgingly Indeed they cannot collude with their employees to help the latter reduce their tax liability But there are a couple of indulgences offered to the salaried with respect to TDS: a) An employer can pay tax on perquisites on behalf of his employees either selectively or en bloc and to this extent the employee(s) would be absolved of their tax liability; and b) An employer can consider loss from house properties both
