However, he left home without even paying the pending electricity bill of Rs 16,000. As a result, the electricity department cut the connection. On noticing mother’s condition, Bipadtaran informed the local Kurkuba Panchayat about the problem. Upon getting the information when Uppradhan Sona Bagdi and Panchayat Samiti member Shaikh Sabiruddin went to meet Durga, her daughter prevented them from entering the house. Facing obstruction both Bagdi and Sabiruddin had to go back. Later it was decided that the District Magistrate and local police will be informed. In the meantime, Bipadtaran was asked to look after his mother as the Panchayat will help him to do so. Locals alleged that a huge portion of land, which was once owned by Durgarani, is now in the grip of Asutosh. Despite knowing his mother’s plight, Asutosh did not even bother to turn up and do something for her. “We are going to worship Durga in a few days. It is very unfortunate that here a Durga is facing such a pathetic life,” said a neighbour of Durgarani.
