“You never know in football. We need to bring the right profile, the right striker to help the team. It is impossible to guess in football.” Lyon forward Clinton N’Jie looks to be that man, with Spurs understood to be close to securing a reported £10million deal. “He is another player in the list, in the papers,” Pochettino said. “If you ask me if I know N’Jie, yes, I know N’Jie. He is a player who can play in different positions. “He is fast, he is a very good player who can play in different positions.” Mauricio Pochettino is not sure why it did not work out at Tottenham for Roberto Soldado, simply saying “football is not mathematics”. Having arrived two years ago among a clutch of post-Gareth Bale acquisitions, expectations were high as Spurs forked out what was a club-record fee that could have risen to £26million. However, Soldado failed to reach the heights he scaled during his time with Valencia and is now set to leave north London to return to his homeland. Press Association Sport understands a £10million move to Villarreal is in the offing for a player who managed just one Premier League goal last term. It ends a frustrating chapter for Soldado and those connected to Tottenham, whose head coach Pochettino found it difficult to explain why it did not work for the player in England. “I don’t know,” he said. “Football is not mathematics. “Sometimes there are a lot of reasons that are difficult to explain. I think it wasn’t easy for him to adapt his game in England at Tottenham.” The exit of Soldado and Pochettino’s admission that Emmanuel Adebayor has no future at White Hart Lane leaves Spurs worryingly light up front. It means Harry Kane is the sole out-and-out first-team striker at the club right now – a situation the Argentinian head coach plans to remedy by bringing in another centre-forward. “Sometimes you have five strikers like Liverpool last season and they were sixth in the table,” he said. “Harry Kane scored 31 goals and Adebayor score two and Soldado scored five. Be in no doubt, Cristiano will retire here because he wants to. Just as [Zinedine] Zidane and other great players have done.”Ronaldo has scored 201 goals in 199 appearances for the Liga giants.
By Kathy MieleDinner was in the oven when Steven came out of his office carrying his morning coffee mug and headed to the kitchen.“The dishwasher’s dirty,” I said as he passed by.No answer.“Hello!” I called.“I heard you,” he said but I could hear the cup being placed in the kitchen sink.“If you heard me then why are you putting it in the sink and not the dishwasher?”“What?”“I just finished telling you the dishwasher’s dirty.”“Oh.”I could hear the dishwasher being opened and the cup going in.Once I heard the cabinet doors opening I figured he was looking for a snack. “Dinner’s going to be ready in 20 minutes, please don’t eat anything now.”No answer.“Can you hear me?”“I heard you,” Steven called.I heard something being opened so I figured he was too hungry to wait. He walked back into the room munching on a cracker. “Something sure smells good,” he said. “When’s dinner?”“Are you kidding?”“What?” he looked confused.“I just finished telling you dinner would be ready in 20 minutes and not to start snacking now.”“Oh.” He popped the last of the cracker into his mouth. “Sorry. But I’m still hungry so it won’t ruin my dinner.” He gave me a quick kiss on the top of my head before going back to his office. Both my boys came in the front door, talking and laughing with one another as they headed to the kitchen.“Please don’t eat anything!” I called. “Dinner will be ready in 20 minutes.”No answer. But I could hear them going through the pantry.“Hello!!!”“Oh sorry.” Alex popped his head around the corner from the kitchen. “Hello.”“Hi, Mom!” Max called from the kitchen.“I wasn’t saying hello!” I cried. “I was telling you not to eat anything because dinner’s almost ready!”Max looked at Alex. “Didn’t she just say hello?”Alex shrugged his shoulders. “I thought she did.”“I’m going to lose my mind,” I muttered to myself.“Well before you do, when’s dinner? We’re starving,” Max said, pouring some crackers into his hand before handing the box to his brother.Steven came out of his office. “Did someone say dinner’s ready?”I turned to look at Steven. “Are you kidding me?”“What?” he asked.Alex held out the box of crackers to him. “Mom’s in one of her moods again,” he explained. “Do you want a cracker?”“Sure. I’m starving. I wonder when dinner will be ready?”The boys just shrugged their shoulders.
Backcountry enthusiasts will now have access to better information for evaluating snow conditions and assessing avalanche risks, thanks to new avalanche awareness signage around the province. Avalanche awareness signs targeting mountain snowmobilers have been posted at 23 key highway locations and most of the 85 managed snowmobile areas in the province. These signs advise sledders they are entering avalanche territory and provide a telephone number and website address that gives up-to-date local avalanche conditions. Avaluator signage, providing users with step-by-step instructions for assessing avalanche dangers, will be installed at nine of B.C.’s most popular snowmobile trail access sites. The signs provide a map of the area, which includes a visual representation of how risky the terrain is in relation to avalanches. Avaluator signs • Avaluator Signs are located: – Near Golden: Gorman Lake, Quartz Creek, Silent Pass – Near Revelstoke: Frisby Ridge, Boulder Mountain – Near Sicamous: Owl Head, Blue Lake, Eagle Pass, Queest Mountain • Avaluator signs were created using the Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale (ATES). With these new signs, mapped snowmobiling terrain in the province has quadrupled—complete drainages are now mapped so sledders can see clearly where the risk of avalanches changes on the trail. Andy Brassell, an expert on European football, runs the rule over potential Manchester United signings Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo.Versatile Ajax star Blind is reportedly closing in on a £15million switch to Old Trafford, and Brassell believes the Dutchman would be an excellent addition to Louis van Gaal’s squad.Speaking on The Sports Bar, he said: “He has played at left-wing back, left-back, as one of a back three, and Ajax are actually grooming him to be a holding midfield player. He can cover so many positions and do them so well. That is why he would be a fantastic signing for Manchester United.”Sporting Lisbon defender Rojo, meanwhile, has handed in a transfer request as he looks to force through a move to Manchester. On the Argentina international, Brassell said: “Rojo can play centre-back or left-back. He is much better at left-back, in my opinion. He had a good season alternating between their and centre-back last season.“Before that, his first season at Sporting he was very shaky and he was very poor for Spartak when he was in Moscow. He had a pretty dire time out there. But he has improved a lot in the last year or so.”

3 September 2009The Department of Home Affairs has announced that it is working with other government departments, the South African Police Service and the National Prosecuting Authority to develop a protocol on the protection of children against child pornography, with a focus on advocacy and law enforcement.Increased access to technologyThe decision was taken at a meeting between the Deputy Basic Education Minister Enver Surty, Deputy Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini and Deputy Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba during a presentation by the Film and Publication Board on their campaign against child pornography in Pretoria this week.“The increase of access to technology and mobile internet, with all its benefits, poses risks such as creation and distribution of child pornography. We need to be proactive in protecting children against this heinous crime,” Gigaba said.He said the lack of statistics about child pornography should not lead to complacency in protecting children.Government departments working on the protocol include the departments of basic education, social development, and justice and constitutional development.Outright media banGigaba added that he would explore an outright ban on pornography in the public media, as is the practice in countries such as China and India.“To this extent, I will approach the Law Reform Commission with a view to requesting them to investigate and advise on the possibility of such a move,” he said.Pro Child websiteIn a bid to discourage child pornography in the public domain, the department last year launched the FPB Pro Child website to enable members of the public to report incidences of pornography. The website, www.fpbprochild.org.za, aims to alert internet service providers of criminal activities relating to child pornography, or images of sexual abuse hosted on their servers or through their infrastructure.Source: BuaNews
Serena Williams returns, Fed Cup ‘start of a long process’ That scoring run has played a key part in Barcelona establishing a commanding nine-point lead in the Spanish league, and making the final of the Copa del Rey. In those semifinals against Valencia, Suarez scored the sole goal in the opening leg, and gave two assists in the second leg this week in an aggregate 3-0 win.Suarez said an injury to his right knee in August kept him from playing his best as Barcelona was adjusting to new coach Ernesto Valverde, and to Neymar’s record-breaking move to Paris Saint-Germain which broke up the formidable attack trio with Suarez and Lionel Messi.FEATURED STORIESSPORTSWATCH: Drones light up sky in final leg of SEA Games torch runSPORTSLillard, Anthony lead Blazers over ThunderSPORTSMalditas save PH from shutout“I was very worried, not so much for not scoring, because I have been through these dips before. I could rest, recover and change my outlook psychologically.”Asked by Valverde to help out more in constructing than finishing attacks, the Uruguayan striker saw his production suffer and managed only five goals in his first 14 matches. 2 ‘newbie’ drug pushers fall in Lucena sting LATEST STORIES FC Barcelona’s Luis Suarez looks on during the Spanish La Liga soccer match between Espanyol and FC Barcelona at RCDE stadium in Cornella Llobregat, Spain, Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018. (AP Photo/Manu Fernandez)BARCELONA, Spain — Luis Suarez hitting his stride is a big reason why Barcelona is on course for two titles in Spain this season.Suarez has shaken off his troubles scoring during the first three months of the season and netted 14 in his last 15 matches.ADVERTISEMENT Globe Business launches leading cloud-enabled and hardware-agnostic conferencing platform in PH AFP official booed out of forum Read Next But as Barcelona settled under Valverde and its players kept winning without Neymar, Suarez is once again flourishing as its No. 9.“Neymar’s exit was a blow to our morale,” Suarez said. “But we pulled through it because of the mentality and the confidence of our coaches, which has been fundamental, spectacular. . Tactically, we have also changed. Before, we had the problem that teams would hit us on counterattacks, but we solved that by strengthening our midfield and playing with our wing backs higher up the pitch.”Both of Suarez’s assists at Valencia came when he slid over to the left flank of the attack, a spot that once belonged to Neymar. He helped put Barcelona in charge shortly after halftime by passing for Philippe Coutinho to score his first goal for the side.Suarez used a sleek change of foot to breeze past Valencia defender Ezequiel Garay before he sliced a cross to the far post where his former Liverpool teammate hooked the ball back inside the other upright.ADVERTISEMENT Suarez next came close to also setting up Messi, only for goalkeeper Jaume Domenech to save his shot after Suarez found Messi near the penalty spot.Suarez did his part to make it 2-0 with eight minutes remaining when he pressured Valencia defender Gabriel Paulista and intercepted his pass. He then stayed upright when avoiding a tackle before he slid the ball over for Ivan Rakitic to fire home.Suarez said he has learned the value of being a team player, not just a scorer, while helping Barcelona win six major titles in the past three seasons.“When I arrived here I told myself that it would be difficult to adapt my way of playing,” Suarez said. “I needed more space, I was used to playing in the Premier League. But even though I have fewer spaces, I fulfill my role in the square meters that I do have. And I notice that when I pressure defenders to recover the ball it spreads to the whole team.”Second to Messi on the La Liga scoring list with 16 – plus three in the Copa del Rey – Suarez went scoreless through all six games of the Champions League group phase.Yet he has been on fire since Barcelona played its last European match on Dec. 5. Suarez found the net in 10 of his next 11 matches. After Spanish league matches against Getafe and Eibar, Suarez will get his chance to break his dry run in Europe on Feb. 20 when Barcelona starts its Champions League round-of-16 tie at Chelsea.Suarez’s career has been tarnished by his bad behavior, including three incidents of biting an opposing player. His last bite of an Italy defender in the 2014 World Cup spurred Liverpool to sell him to Barcelona. While maintaining his aggressive style, Suarez has avoided any serious outbursts or violent incidents in Spain.“You have to take advantage of every small detail,” Suarez said. “I can argue with a defender and I have more chances of getting him sent off. and the defender can do the same with me. There is a limit, of course, but squabbles form part of the essence of football.” MOST READ Slow and steady hope for near-extinct Bangladesh tortoises Brace for potentially devastating typhoon approaching PH – NDRRMC Suarez missed last year’s Copa del Rey final after being sent off in the semifinals, and he was at risk of missing another final if he picked up a yellow card on Thursday. His clean play means that, barring injury, Suarez will feature in Barcelona’s attack against Sevilla on April 21 when it will seek a fourth consecutive cup. Opener Murali Vijay’s breezy 73 went in vain as Victoria Bushrangers snatched a dramatic win over Chennai Super Kings in a keenly contested Champions League Twenty20 Group A match that had to be decided via the Super Over in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.Riding on Vijay’s 53-ball innings, Chennai Super Kings posted 162 for six in 20 overs but then Victoria Bushrangers also managed the exact score and the encounter had to be stretched into the Super Over. With 12 runs required from the last over to win, Victoria lost two wickets in the form of Clint McKay (10) and Dirk Nannes (0) as medium pacer Suresh Raina scalped two wickets in successive deliveries. However, Raina could not stop the Australian side from equalling CSK score although they lost the 10th wicket in the form of Bryce McGain (0) in the last ball of the 20th over.In the Super Over, Aaron Finch and David Hussey hammered spinner R Ashwin to gather 23 runs from the six balls with the help of three huge sixes. In reply, Vijay and Suresh Raina could manage only 13 runs off McKay.Earlier, Chasing 163 to win, Victoria started on an attacking note with opener Finch taking on Chennai bowling attack head on.23-year-old Finch, who cracked four fours and three sixes during his brief but pacy innings, struck two successive fours in the third over off paceman Doug Bollinger.Chennai got their first success when Ashwin removed dangerous looking Finch in the fourth over. Finch mistimed a flick, the ball ballooned towards short cover and Ashwin took a diving catch after a short sprint.advertisementThe Australian side suffered another loss in the fifth over when Brad Hodge (6) fell prey to Bollinger and returned to the dugout, leaving Victoria at 49 for two.But from this condition captain Matthew Wade (31) and captain David Hussey took the initiative away from the Chennai camp with their attacking performance.David scored 51 off 45 balls with the help of four fours and a six.The duo badly battered medium pacer Lakshmipathy Balaji in the seventh over and took 17 runs off the six balls with the help of four fours before rain interrupted the game for a few minutes.Victoria was comfortably placed at 91 for two after the 10th over. But legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan was the man who then changed the colour of the match by scalping two wickets in successive deliveries in the 12th over in the form of Wade and Andrew McDonald (0).
