Miguel Daniels and Alension JosephEighteen-year-old Miguel Daniels and his 20-year-old accomplice Alension Joseph, both miners, were on Friday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to answer a charge of robbery-under-arms.The charge stated that on March 28, 2019, at Balata Backdam, Mazaruni River, Region Seven, (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), while in the company of others and armed with a knife, they robbed Andre Francis of 2.2 penny weight of raw gold, a gold scale and quarter bottle of silver, all at a total cost of $82,000.The unrepresented duo admitted to the offence, and Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that on March 28, the virtual complainant had “washed down” his dredge and reported a production of 2.2 pennyweight of raw gold. However, at about 23:42h, the VC was asleep when he was awakened and confronted by the two men, who attacked him. The VC tried to resist, but was overpowered, and Daniels and Joseph picked up the bag containing the items and made good their escape. The matter was reported to the Kamarang Police Station, an investigation was launched, and the duo were arrested. They admitted to the offence and were later charged. In a plea of mitigation, both defendants told the Chief Magistrate that they had mistaken the VC for someone else who had stolen money from them, and they were acting to get it back. The Chief Magistrate fined both Daniels and Joseph $7000 each. Failure to pay the fine would result in either serving three months’ imprisonment.
Gartan Outdoor Education and Training Centre, have launched a fantastic new website. Previously, it was called Gartan Outdoor Education Centre, the slight change in name is very deliberate. It more properly reflects our full role as leaders in Outdoor Learning, and in Outdoor Adventure Training. Run under the auspices of County Donegal Education and Training Board (used to be VEC), we felt it time for Gartan to communicate its training provision more effectively. We have always provided a very high level of training, but we’ve probably held that as a little secret! Our staff members at Gartan are hugely experienced, and qualified, across a broad range of adventure sports. Each is also a highly experienced educator, committed to the high impact and lasting learning potential of the great outdoors. Such learning is best achieved in the company of instructors for whom personal and group safety is fundamental, while still being able to challenge people of all ages and abilities to extend themselves beyond their own boundaries, and to develop individually and as teams. We’re well known for our Outdoor Education and Learning provision, in this stunningly beautiful location on Gartan Lough. And we’re always learning ourselves. We’re also held in very high regard by National Governing Bodies for our various adventure sports. So high in fact that we hold prominent roles within some of our NGBs, and we are called upon more than any others to assist in course and safety development work.We at Gartan hope you like our new site, and can more easily find what you need. The site contains a blog for up to date information and events. Please also visit our Facebook page, Gartan, for regular updates on what is happening at Gartan and in Outdoor Learning and Adventure Sport Training. We welcome feedback, so if you have useful ideas that you’d like to see incorporated, let us know.Contact Diego at [email protected], or call us 074 9137032GARTAN OUTDOOR EDUCTION CENTRE LAUNCHES FANTASTIC NEW WEBSITE was last modified: May 26th, 2014 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:BusinessFeaturesGartan OECNew WebsiteNoticesSport
