A 1996 Muir graduate, Robinson has been a dedicated and vocal supporter of the historic high school throughout her two terms on the Pasadena City Council. For her, the Hall of Fame serves as a reminder that, despite the its well-known challenges, Muir remains a proud campus that is producing numerous successes.Robinson said in a statement, “I am honored to join the distinguished group of alumni that precede me in the Hall of Fame. I am grateful to the Alumni Association for showcasing alumni in this way and helping to dispel if the myth that Muir is not a great school that produces individuals who are excelling in every sector of the Pasadena community and beyond.”Vice-Mayor Jacque Robinson will enter the Muir Hall of Fame this weekend along with five other exceptional alumni: social justice and public education advocate Molly Munger, aerospace engineer Richard Jimenez, ethnic and women’s studies educator Starla Lewis, UCLA gridiron and track hero Harold Busby, and Tim Estes, founder of Fiesta Parade Floats. The induction ceremony is set for Saturday, November 9, ten o’clock a.m., at Muir’s Rufus Mead Auditorium. The Hall of Fame induction is just one of several ways in which Muir alumni are giving back to their school during homecoming. On Friday, November 8 — the same day that Muir and Pasadena High School clash in the Turkey Tussle at the Rose Bowl — Muir and PHS graduates will tee off in the First Annual Birdie Tussle, a golf tournament benefitting sports programs at both high schools. On Sunday, filmmaker and Muir alumnus Pablo Miralles will screen his new documentary, Can We All Get Along? Stories of Integration from John Muir High. The film, which recalls the triumphs and controversies around busing in the 1970s, will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Miralles, Muir principal Timothy Sippel and prominent community leaders. UK Navy Sailors Engage in Caribbean Tsunami Relief Drills

first_img View post tag: Caribbean View post tag: Naval View post tag: UK Navy Back to overview,Home naval-today UK Navy Sailors Engage in Caribbean Tsunami Relief Drills Share this article View post tag: News by topic British sailors have taken part in a tsunami relief exercise in the Caribbean.Held on the island of Montserrat, sailors from HMS Severn faced the scenario of a five metre high wave slamming into the island, with the Royal Navy vessel sent in to help.It was the first time that the Montserrat Disaster Management Coordination Agency had conducted such an exercise which was split into two parts: table top tactics and a live element.Severn’s Commanding Officer Lieutenant Commander Steve Banfield and First Lieutenant (Logistics Officer) Lt Roger Filewod helped local authorities from a planning perspective. To simulate a response, Severn deployed her Disaster Reconnaissance teams, including the Medical Officer and Leading Medical Assistant with engineering and logistical specialists. They established a command and control point in the port of Little Bay and carried out local area reconnaissance while reporting the extent of the damage back to the ship and the local government.Following the exercise the ship hosted Montserrat Fire Brigade to find out how a ship deals with maritime firefighting. At the same time the ship also hosted the Montserrat Police Force marine unit for navigational training while some of Severn’s engineers visited Montserrat Police patrol vessel, MV Shamrock.Severn’s Medical Officer, Surgeon Lieutenant Sophie Hawkes and Leading Medical Assistant Chris Turner provided First Aid Training with the Montserrat Red Cross Organisation.Thirty One Island volunteers attended the training session, and were all presented with a Certificate of Attendance on completion of the joint training. This is the first time that Portsmouth based HMS Severn, one of three River Class Offshore Patrol Vessels, which normally patrol UK coastal waters, has deployed to the Caribbean.Image: Royal Navy View post tag: europe UK Navy Sailors Engage in Caribbean Tsunami Relief Drills View post tag: Drills View post tag: Navy View post tag: sailors View post tag: Relief View post tag: Engage View post tag: Tsunami Authorities February 11, 2015last_img read more

Shapeshifter Lindsey Graham digs election fraud hole even deeper with sequence of provable lies

first_imgIt’s all so positively Trumpian (i.e. criminal)—make baseless accusations about something and then, when they don’t pan out, simply commit the fraud you baselessly alleged in order to benefit your own side. Sounds like Graham’s spent a little too much time drinking in Trump’s skulduggery on the links. Graham quickly denied this account because it immediately prompted calls for his resignation and even criminal indictment. Seriously, why in the hell is anyone telling any secretary of state how to count votes, let alone a close Trump ally intervening in the affairs of another state?Raffensperger—a Republican who has grown increasingly incensed over the pressure campaign from his GOP colleagues—reportedly had two calls with Graham and had originally thought he was calling to discuss the state’s two Senate runoff races in January. But during the second call Graham homed in on the mismatched signatures and potentially throwing out legal ballots if they came from counties where more signature errors were recorded. The main problem for Graham and his now shifting account of the call is that some Raffensperger aides were on the call too (i.e. witnesses) and at least one has already corroborated Raffensperger’s recollection. Oops.- Advertisement – Graham then amended his earlier claim (i.e. changed his story), saying he hadn’t spoken with the Secretaries of State of Arizona and Nevada but rather Arizona GOP Gov. Doug Ducey. Oops—not two conversations with election officials from two separate states; just one call with the governor of… Arivada? Anyway, easy mistake. Wherever this is heading for Graham isn’t good. He’s provably lying. There’s witnesses who can attest to his calls with Raffensperger (one already has) and at least one witness who is willing to attest to Graham’s non-call with her in Arizona.Perhaps, Graham is now madly burning up the phone lines with other secretaries of state at this very moment to cover his behind. And what exactly happened between Graham’s first call with Raffensperger and the second call in which he apparently began advocating for him to commit widespread election fraud—exactly the type of fraud Republicans have been railing against but haven’t found anywhere.- Advertisement – – Advertisement – “A staffer for Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger said Tuesday that he participated in a controversial phone call with Sen. Lindsey Graham and said he heard Graham ask if state officials could throw out ballots,” CNN confirmed Tuesday afternoon.Earlier Tuesday, Graham suddenly began suggesting he had simply been calling around to multiple secretaries of state to chew the election fat. Only that was clearly a lie too. After Graham told a group of reporters he had also called top election officials in Nevada and Arizona to discuss general election integrity, Arizona’s Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs quickly tweeted, “This is false. I have not spoken with @LindseyGrahamSC.” Nice touch that she tagged Graham’s handle in the tweet.- Advertisement –last_img read more
